Delete your JawaChat account
Applies to the JawaChat app for Android, iOS and the web.
JawaChat stores your account on your own device, not on our servers, so you delete it yourself from the app — it takes a few seconds and doesn't need our approval.
Delete your account in the app
- Open JawaChat and sign in.
- Tap your profile picture (bottom of the side bar) to open Profile.
- Scroll to Delete account and tap Delete my account.
- Type your username to confirm.
If you can't sign in any more (for example you forgot your password), open the app, go to Sign in, choose the account under Accounts saved on this device and tap Delete selected account from this device. You can also uninstall the app or clear the website's data in your browser settings.
What is deleted
- Your encrypted account vault and recovery key on that device.
- Your contacts, chats, groups, message requests, blocked list and settings on that device.
- Your public profile and @username: JawaChat publishes an empty replacement profile and a deletion request to the relays, so people can no longer find you by username.
Deletion from your device happens immediately. Relays usually remove or replace your public profile right away; a relay run by a third party may keep old copies according to its own policy.
What is not deleted
- Messages you already sent stay on the devices of the people you sent them to.
- Copies of your account on other devices, and backup files or recovery keys you saved, keep working until you delete them too.
- Encrypted messages waiting on relays expire on their own; nobody but the recipient can read them.
JawaChat does not keep any other personal data about you, so there is nothing else to delete.
