Your identity and message format are independent of the route that carries them. Today JawaChat uses Internet relays and WebRTC; the routing core is built so gateways, mesh radios and satellite links can plug in later without changing who you are.

Yes. JawaChat is free to use and runs in your browser — nothing to download. It uses public relays by default, and you can choose your own in Settings.
Pick an Instagram-style username like @aman when you sign up and share it anywhere — or share your short link and QR code. People type your username in JawaChat to start a chat. No phone number or email is ever needed.
JawaChat checks that a name is free when you choose it. Because there is no central server, a clash is still possible; if it happens, JawaChat shows every matching person so you can pick the right one, and saved contacts stay locked to the person you chose.
Encrypted messages pass through relays. Your conversation history, contacts and settings are stored in your browser, encrypted with a key derived from your identity. Nothing is stored on a JawaChat server.
JawaChat can't reset it — there is no account server. Download the encrypted backup file or write down your recovery key from the Profile panel so you can restore your identity.
Some strict NAT or firewall setups block direct peer-to-peer calls. Add a TURN server under Settings → Calls; JawaChat can also route calls only through TURN to hide your IP address from the other person.
Not yet. JawaChat is an active prototype without forward-secret ratcheting or an independent audit. Read the security model for details, and don't rely on it for emergencies.
